Our Wedding,
Thursday, May 1, 2014 | 0 peterpan(s)

I don’t think I will ever be able to completely explain the way it feels to marry your best friend, the overwhelming feeling of love and joy when you take those last final steps before your entire life changes. It’s exciting, stressful and one of the most amazing feelings I have ever felt.
Our wedding day started off nicely. My sister and I stayed at a Bed and Breakfast where the room was donated to me by Wesley’s best friend’s mom. We woke up early and ate breakfast where we shared in a lovely conversation with a couple that were about my parents age and talked about weddings and bacon. When we went back to our room I saw that I had a text message, and that was where the downward spiral began. My videographer had texted me to tell me that she no longer felt like driving four hours to come shoot our wedding. I was immediately overwhelmed with stress and the tears began to stream down my face. I called my dad and told him to charge up my camera in case we have no other options and after threatening to turn her into the business bureau she found me another videographer (who was a grumpy old man and I was very dissatisfied with but it was better than nothing).
My bridesmaids started showing up at 1 PM which was the same time my new videographer showed up. I had already started working on my hair and everyone immediately began getting to work on their own hair and makeup with the help of our flower girl’s mom (who is wonderful at doing makeup).
At 3 PM our wonderful photographer, Allison Jeffers Wedding Photography, showed up and began to snap some photos of our dresses and our boots. I began to do my makeup and as soon as my mom showed up, I began to put on my dress. We wrapped up around there about 4:30 PM and headed towards my parents home where my sister and sister-in-law, Hannah, snuck me into the house to wait for the ceremony to start.
I wasn’t nervous the entire morning. There were no tears, no wedding jitters until the time for me to walk down the aisle grew nearer. By the time we all lined up to step outside, my hands were shaking and my flower girl kept squeezing them.
I was met by my dad when we reached the wall we were hiding behind and as soon as he grabbed my arm, I lost it and when the music started playing the tears streamed harder. Making Plans by Miranda Lambert was the song that played while my bridesmaids and flower girl walked down the aisle and I walked down the aisle to A Thousand Years by The Piano Guys. I will never forget the look on Wesley’s face when he finally saw me.
My dad not only walked me down the aisle and gave me away but he also officiated the wedding and began the ceremony off with this verse.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
There were a few hiccups in our ceremony because my dad was on the verge of tears throughout the thing, having to take a brief moment to compose himself before finishing the passage, but it had everyone laughing. After the scripture was read, Wesley and I then shared the vows that we wrote for each other.
My vows;

His vows;

Our kiss was kept very intimate and between us because Wesley chose to keep his cowboy hat on. I was full of happiness and butterflies and as soon as we were pronounced husband and wife, Best Day of My Life by American Authors started playing and we walked back up the aisle and then waited to be greeted by our friends and family.
Our family photos did not go as smoothly as I had hoped, everyone was excited and it seemed as though there was some confusion but I can’t wait to see all of the photos when we get them back from our amazing (and ridiculously patient and kind) photographer!
We had a BBQ dinner that was served while we took photos; brisket, sausage, potato salad and beans. Everything was homemade and it went over really well with all of our guest. I can’t tell you how many people came up to us and raved about the brisket. The cake cutting was confusing to both Wesley and I but we both avoided smearing the cake all over each other. The speeches brought tears to both of our eyes and our first dance was nothing but magical. (Wesley was up at three in the morning being taught how to dance by his best man and sisters!) Our first dance song was I Don’t Dance by Lee Bryce (song picked out last minute by my husband.) The flower was caught by the best man’s girlfriend and the garter was caught by one of my brother’s friends. We all danced the night away and at 10 PM we were sent off with sparklers.
Our wedding was perfect and I wouldn’t have changed any of it for the world.
